Named after the illustrious 18th-century watchmaker Charles Leroy, L.Leroy made its return over the past couple of years with high-end complications such as the Osmior Bal du Temps Tourbillon Minute Repeater or the Elyor Flying Tourbillon. Yet, the first watch heralding this renaissance was a unique piece combining a minute repeater and a tourbillon that was presented in the frame of the 2023 Only Watch auction. With its original rotating dial, this single-hand watch was inspired by a Leroy tact watch from 1810, created for the Prince Emil Maximilian Leopold August of Hesse and now part of the Patek Philippe Museum collection… It allowed the hours and half-hours to be read without a candle, by touch, thanks to diamonds and pearls arranged around the case.
The new L.Leroy Vox Temporis follows the inspiration of the 2023 unique piece, but with a more pared-back and simplified design, giving it less of a jewellery-watch feel. As such, the time is still indicated thanks to a rotating dial with a fixed hand-engraved arrow-shaped hour hand and a flinqué soleil decoration that is available in blue, anthracite grey or steel grey.
The original and elegant single-hand approach is ideal for those who want to keep track of time but who aren’t obsessed with the seconds. Still, if you need precision down to the minute, these can be chimed thanks to the minute repeater mechanism. Hence the “Vox Temporis” – voice of time in Latin – name chosen for this new creation.
The L.Leroy Vox Temporis comes in a 43mm round, drum-shaped case available in 18k red gold, 950 platinum or grade 5 titanium. It is equipped with a hinged officer-style caseback. The latter can be released thanks to the pusher at 4 o’clock to admire the complex movement inside. Manufactured by Régence Production SA (ex-Timeless SA) in Geneva, the proprietary L601SQR manual-winding calibre combines a minute repeater with a flying one-minute tourbillon. Comprising 321 components, it beats at 3Hz or 21,600 vibrations/hour, and it is equipped with a single barrel delivering a comfortable 90-hour power reserve.
The L.Leroy Vox Temporis is worn on a black alligator leather strap (large scales on top, small scales inside) with a folding clasp emblazoned with the brand’s double-L logo. It is released in a limited edition of 15 pieces across the three versions. The price is set at CHF 265,000 in titanium, CHF 290,000 in red gold and CHF 320,000 in platinum.
